If Netflix can pull it off, revenue from the ad-supported version of the service and from a coming charge to subscribers for sharing their accounts, may well make up for any shortfall from a lower-priced streaming tier, said Haris Anwar, a senior analyst with Investing.com.

Streaming at any additional households for more than two weeks, would prompt the account to set up -- and pay for -- additional "homes," with a limit on how many additional homes you can add depending on how much you're already paying for Netflix. Netflix appears to be eschewing this model in favor of the other one it tested.  In July, Netflix said it would test a different method in Argentina, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. This test established an account's primary residence as the "home" for the membership.

After years of being relatively laissez faire about password sharing, Netflix started testing ways to get shared accounts to pay after dealing with its deepest subscriber losses ever earlier this year. In addition to the password-sharing fees, Netflix also plans to launch cheaper subscriptions supported by advertising next month. 

Netflix Co-Chief Executive Reed Hastings said that insight dawned on him after listening recently to former Disney CEO Bob Iger describe traditional TV as marching toward a precipice. As TV's audience shrinks, it becomes less attractive for advertisers - and a plum target for Netflix to disrupt.

Monday, Netflix said it was launching a profile-transfer feature, which is a key component of the password-sharing fees tested in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru. This feature lets a profile created on a shared Netflix account transfer its watch history and recommendations to a new, independent account. This new account can then be added to somebody else's Standard or Premium subscription plan. 

And Firefox has an additional option for those who never want to keep their browsing data after they're done using the app. It's a useful feature if you'd like to keep the browser tidy and, say, avoid accidentally handing off your browser history to someone who may have stolen or otherwise gained access to your phone. Inside of Settings is a Delete browsing data on quit option, which instructs Firefox to wipe any combination of these same settings every time you quit the application.
